Where Can You Play on Portland's West Side, No Matter the Weather?

Topgolf in Hillsboro, The Circuit Bouldering Gym in Tigard, and Portland Escape Rooms in Beaverton give westside residents indoor options for rainy days. Tualatin Island Greens and Tree to Tree Adventure Park in Gaston round out the list for clear-sky afternoons. All five sit within a 30-minute drive of most westside neighborhoods.

One of the questions I get most from people moving to the west side is what there actually is to do once the boxes are unpacked. Beaverton, Hillsboro, and Tigard don't get talked about the way inner Portland does, but this corner of the metro has some genuinely fun spots I send friends and clients to all the time. Here are five I keep coming back to.

Where in Portland can you play golf games when it's raining?

Topgolf Hillsboro, at 5505 NE Huffman St., rents climate-controlled hitting bays by the hour rather than charging per person, so a group can split the cost.

You don't need to be a regular golfer to enjoy Topgolf. Each bay holds up to six people, and the games go beyond traditional targets. There's a shot-tracking format, a version modeled on Angry Birds, and a best-shot mode for people who just want to see how far they can hit. The bays are covered and heated, which makes this one of the few outdoor-adjacent activities that actually works on a gray February afternoon. There's also a great food menu and a full bar. An hour or two is usually enough time to get a few full rounds in with a group.

Where can you go bouldering on Portland's west side?

The Circuit Bouldering Gym has a location in Tigard, part of a small Portland-area chain that rotates its climbing routes roughly every six weeks.

Bouldering is a good fit for anyone who wants an active indoor option that doesn't feel like a typical gym. Routes are set for a range of skill levels, and because they change regularly, a membership doesn't get stale. The Tigard location also offers yoga classes alongside the climbing. For people building general fitness and balance for hiking season, this kind of route-based problem solving translates surprisingly well to trail confidence.

Where's a low-key mini golf course near Tualatin?

Tualatin Island Greens, at 20400 SW Cipole Rd., offers an 18-hole mini golf course built to resemble a real golf course rather than a novelty course, alongside a full driving range.

This isn't the kind of mini golf with a giant clown mouth or a spinning windmill. The course plays more like a scaled-down version of a real one, with water hazards and sand traps worked into the layout. It's a good option for early spring or late fall when the days are shorter but you still want to be outside. The driving range next door makes it easy to turn a quick round into a longer outing if someone in your group wants to hit a bucket of balls first.

Where can you find a good escape room near Beaverton?

Portland Escape Rooms has a Beaverton location that rotates its room themes and difficulty levels based on player feedback, so repeat visits often feel different from the first.

Escape rooms are a solid pick for a group activity that doesn't depend on the weather at all. The Beaverton location updates its rooms regularly, so going back a second or third time isn't redundant. Group size affects both the cost and your odds of solving the puzzles in time, so this tends to work best with four to six people. Most locations also offer a coupon after your first visit, which is worth watching for if email deals from local businesses tend to get buried in your inbox.

Where can you go ziplining near Portland?

Tree to Tree Adventure Park, located in Gaston near Hagg Lake, is roughly an hour from Portland and offers guided zipline tours along with an aerial obstacle course set in the tree canopy.

This one requires more of a drive than the others, but it's worth it. The park includes rope bridges and platform-to-platform obstacles in addition to the zipline itself, so it's not a one-note activity. Expect some walking to get between stations. The park also books birthday parties and group events, which makes it a good option if you're looking for something more memorable than a typical get-together.
